PONDA: A Pune police team investigating the anti-superstition activist Dr Narendra Dabholkar’s murder case will interrogate one of the four accused arrested in connection with kidnapping and use of firearms at Curti-Ponda on Monday.
Ponda police say the accused, Narayan Janal from Pune, was carrying a country-made (7.65 bore) pistol which he allegedly used in an unsuccessful bid to kidnap a couple from the Housing Board, Curti.
Janal has been remanded to seven days police custody, while the other accused have been remanded to one-day police custody.
Ponda police on Monday arrested four persons on charges of kidnapping, trespass and use of firearms. Since Janal was said to be a resident of Pune, Ponda police contacted the Pune police to obtain his antecedents. Janal was carrying a pistol license which police suspect is bogus as the license has been obtained from Bihar and the bullets from West Bengal and that he didn’t even give satisfactory answers.
“We recovered a pistol that appears to be country made and 15 live bullets (7.65 bore). It is learnt that ammunitions used in Dr Narendra Dhabolkar killing are similar to the ones recovered from Janal. A Pune police team will interrogate Janal in the Dr Dhabolkar murder case,” informed Ponda Police Inspector C L Patil.
Dr Dhabolkar was gunned down by unknown persons in Pune on August 20. Sanatan Sanstha’s role was also under the scanner as the Pune police had visited the Sanatan Ashram in Goa on two occasions. The Pune police team is expected to reach Goa on Tuesday night.
