VASCO: The Public Works Department (PWD), water division Vasco, has decided to demolish all the dilapidated overhead water tanks under its jurisdiction.
According to Assistant Engineer Vishwambhar Bhende, currently two such overhead water tanks have been identified for demolition on priority.
“We have identified two overhead water tanks which need to be demolished on priority. The first tank is located near the Housing Board in New Vaddem. This tank was constructed some four decades ago and after the tank was found unsafe, we stopped using this facility. For this overhead water tank, we have already moved a proposal to demolish the same and once the proposal is approved we would demolish the same on priority as there are residential houses in the vicinity of this old tank which now pose threat to the lives of residents,” he said.
The second identified for demolition is located at Headland Sada. “When we conducted a test on this tank, we found that the tank is lying in dangerous condition. We have therefore proposed demolish this tank. But the approval for demolishing the tank hasn’t been granted yet,” Bhende said.
He said that another overhead water tank at Chicalim had some issues.
