VALPOI: Continuing their protest against the demarcation of the land for the proposed IIT project in Melauli, the villagers on Thursday said that they were ready to get themselves arrested at any moment and vowed not to allow the project in their village at any cost.
“Melauli villagers are ready to get arrested at any moment and sit in the police lockup. We will not allow the IIT project in our village at any cost. We want to save our village from environmental degradation,” said Sadayo Melekar, a local.
“We, the women from Melauli want to save our village from the destruction and for that we are ready to die for our village,” said Unnati Melekar, a villager.
“Together we will teach a lesson to both the representatives of Sattari taluka for playing with our feelings and sentiments,” the villagers warned.
“Both the representatives of Sattari taluka are telling the government not to solve the land issue of Sattari locals. It will affect their political career permanently,” the locals claimed.
The villagers have been demanding that the government should scrap the IIT project and give them the Alvara land ownership in Class ‘A’ category.
The locals claimed that they have submitted the Alvara land files to the government for ownership rights nearly two years ago and alleged that till date the government has not taken any steps to solve the land issue.
