MARGAO: Alleging the connivance of authorities and police, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has threatened to launch a strong protest and a morcha if they failed to track down the culprits after two youth suspected to have consumed overdose of drugs were found dead at a birthday party in Maina-Curtorim on Sunday morning.
Speaking to the media, Reginaldo alleged that “Without connivance of the authorities and police mechanism, the drug traders cannot succeed.”
He further said that he has asked the chief minister, the superintendent and deputy superintendent of Police (South), to act swiftly in this case, failing which he will write open letters exposing the intricate hand-in-glove of drug trade.
The Curtorim MLA has demanded an in-depth and total investigation in this case right till the uppermost trail of the drug trade and called upon the police to provide action taken report soon.
Reginaldo further charged that a man named ‘Mathew’ is a link to a drug trader whose code name is ‘Lotus’ and these names have surfaced when deeper probe was made.
He said that there is fear amongst the villagers and people around as to how this drug menace has reached the interior villages. The MLA complained that the police and the authorities even after having the information on the trail of drug business still don’t act against it.
Two more incidents had occurred in and around Curtorim where in one case, drug packets were found in the bag of two road accident youth victims and another case was when drugs were found in the possession of school students. Sadly, dust has settled on both the cases and now a fresh case has resulted in the death of two youth.
