Register case against Mickky: Activist

MARGAO: Women’s right activist Tara Kerkar has demanded registration of a case against Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco for allegedly abusing Colva PSI Manguesh Volvoikar on last Friday at Betalbatim.
A delegation comprising of Tara and members of Savera group called on the district police chief Shekhar Prabhudessai and impressed on the need to register a case against Pacheco based on the complaint lodged by PSI Manguesh. “I don’t blame the crowd for assaulting the accused for attacking the SSC girl student. The accused deserved the thrashing from the public for attacking the girl because one does not get justice and that the law and order machinery has failed. But, what is objectionable is the fact that the MLA abused PSI Manguesh in full view of the public,” Tara said.
She recalled that Pacheco was released by the Court in the Junior Engineers assault case with a caution that he should behave like a public servant. ‘We have asked the SP, South to book a case against the MLA based on the PSI’s complaint”, she added.
While PSI Manguesh had accused the Nuvem MLA for obstructing him from discharging his duties on the day of the incident at Betalbatim when a migrant labourer attacked the girl from the village, Pacheco has maintained that he had saved the day for the PSI by calming down frayed tempers after the PSI clicked photographs of the crowd.
