MARGAO, JULY 18
The underground Sewerage system laid at the Madel ward of Margao remains unconnected to the sewerage network.
But, residents of the ward found to their utter surprise water gushing out from a newly-laid chamber, raising questions over the fate of the project once the residential and commercial complexes are connected to the network.
Locals have demanded an inquiry into the incident, demanding to know how rain water could enter into the underground line when the line is presently under construction.
Work on the Madel sewerage system was tendered at an estimated cost of Rs 3.18 crore. Presently, around 50 per cent of the work stands executed by the contractor.
Locals says no connection have been released till date since the sewerage line is not yet connected to the main sewerage link.
Incidentally, residents of Madel had been demanding a sewerage line in the ward, which has witnessed spurt in construction activity over the years. In fact, overflowing soakpits and septic tanks in the ward is the order of the day in the absence of a sewerage network.
Presently, sewage waste is released in the storm water drains, nullahs and even paddy fields.
