VASCO: To facilitate routine runway repair works planned by Indian Navy as part its annual pre-monsoon maintenance of the airport runway, Dabolim airport will have restricted flight operations for one week.
According to available information, the naval authorities managing Air Traffic Control have issued Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to airport authority as well as airline operators that they would be taking up runway maintenance works for one week from May 1 to 7, and during this period, all flight operations would be restricted from 6.30 am to 12.30 pm.
“NOTAM has been issued for some runway repairs by Navy officials at INS Hansa. As per Navy, this is routine maintenance exercise where they take up repairs works before every monsoon so that minor problems to the runway can be repaired before monsoon. As per NOTAM received, Dabolim airport will have restricted flight operations for one week. As usual from Monday to Friday the flight operations at Dabolim airport is restricted between 6.30 am to 12.30 pm and for this maintenance work, Navy have extended this timing for another two hours” said Airport Director B C H Negi.
He said, “This flight restriction would not affect any flight operations during afternoon hours as all flight arriving or departing Goa airport will operate normally. However, all those flights that were scheduled during morning hours and were getting affected; the concerned airline operators have rescheduled their operations with some minor changes. I exactly don’t know how many flights would be affected during morning hours. However, it has been confirmed to us by the airline operators that they have made changes in their operations in view of restricted flight operations at Dabolim airport for five days,” Negi added.
