MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesssai and his arch rival Damu Naik jostled on Tuesday to claim credit for road works in the constituency.
While Vijai and his group inaugurated the hot-mixing of roads in the morning, Damu along with his supporters assembled at Agalli later in the day to convey the message that the works were initiated during his tenure.
The Fatorda MLA inaugurated the hot-mixing works in the presence of Margao Municipal Chairperson Arthur D’Silva at Agalli. After the inauguration, Vijai said that hot-mixing of all internal roads will be completed before the monsoon season at an estimated cost of Rs 1.45 crore and warned of action against departments digging up the hot-mixed roads.
Former Fatorda MLA Damu Naik arrived at the spot later in the day for inspections of the works executed by the PWD. He said all these road works were initiated and tendered during his tenure. “During the last five years, I had initiated many works, which are being executed now. People of Fatorda know the people who were putting hurdles in the execution of the road works,” he said.
Damu said anyone may come here and claim credit for the road works, but the records would show who had initiated the works. “People were misguided all this time over works in Fatorda constituency.”
