MARGAO: The South Goa district authorities on Thursday told the striking South Goa Comunidade employees to withdraw their over month long strike immediately or face.
The employees, however, took a defiant stand, vowing to continue the stir till they are paid their five-month salaries.
Additional Collector Roncon Pereira was deputed by the district collector Dr Satish Shide to the Comunidade office to convey the message to the employees, who have been on a pen down strike since February 3.
Pereira sent a warning to the employees that the administration may no longer tolerate the continuance of the strike, promising to take up their issue with the government on top most priority. It is learnt that a couple of striking employees who had reported late for work were marked absent to send a message loud and clear that the administration means business.
The employees however, told the Additional Collector that they would join duties no sooner their salaries for the last five months are paid by the government. In fact, employees has demanded to know the district Collector and the Additional Collector would have remained silent if their salaries were not paid for a single month and when their families are solely dependent on their earnings.
In the meanwhile, a delegation of the employees called on Chief Minister, Parsekar on Thursday evening, wherein they were assured of their salary payments at the earliest.
