Salgaocar Shipping bags Shirigao-Mayem mineral block

The company bid the highest at 99.25% revenue share of the average sale price; will have to obtain all valid permissions to operate the lease including Environmental Clearance

PANJIM: Goa-based Salgaocar Shipping Company Pvt Ltd won the bid for Shirigao-Mayem mineral block during the second round of e-auction held on Thursday.

The Salgaocar Shipping bid the highest at 99.25 per cent revenue share of the average sale price fixed by Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM). Seven companies bid for the block, which has a total area of 172 ha.

M/s Chowgule & Co Pvt Ltd owned the lease before the State government took over. 

As per the information, the block has total 55.45ha of mineralised area and the non-mineralised area is around 50.79 ha. The total unexplored lease area is 64.99 ha. The total ore reserve available is around 24 million tonnes. 

The bidder will now have to obtain all the valid permissions to operate the lease including Environmental Clearance (EC).

On Wednesday, Vedanta Ltd won Bicholim-Mulgao mining block bid.

The first instalment of the bid price will have to be paid to the government within 15 days after which the Letter of Intent will be issued.
