Saligao, Goa: Residents of Saligao have stepped up their protest against a proposed mega housing project at Bairo Alto Vaddo, alleging that repeated representations to the Village Panchayat, the Town and Country Planning Department, and other authorities have failed to address their concerns.
A large number of villagers gathered at the Saligao Panchayat ground on Friday, voicing strong opposition to the project and demanding immediate action from the authorities.

The protesters have raised several objections to the development, claiming that the project does not comply with mandatory planning norms. Among the issues highlighted are the alleged absence of a required six-metre access road, inadequate setbacks, and the alleged misrepresentation of site conditions to secure technical clearance and a construction licence.
Expressing frustration over what they described as official inaction, the residents called for an immediate stop-work order on the ongoing construction until the matter is thoroughly examined.
The villagers have also demanded a joint site inspection involving government officials, panchayat representatives, and local residents to verify the alleged violations. They urged authorities to initiate strict action if any irregularities are found during the inspection.
According to the protesters, allowing the project to proceed without addressing these concerns could place additional pressure on local infrastructure, leading to water shortages, increased electricity demand, sewage management issues, and a higher burden on waste disposal systems.
The residents further appealed to the government and concerned departments to ensure transparency in the approval process and prioritise the welfare and interests of the local community before permitting further construction.
The protest underscores growing concerns among Saligao residents over large-scale developments and their potential impact on the village’s infrastructure and quality of life.
