MARGAO: The Sao Jose De Areal gram sabha demanded the formulation of a new Regional Plan for Goa.

At the meeting held on Sunday, which was chaired by Sarpanch Carmina Fernandes, this key resolution to ask the government to prepare a new Regional Plan for Goa, was moved by local resident Tenny Paul Fernandes.
Gram Sabha member Fredy Travasso told the Chair that under newly introduced provisions Sec 17(2) and 39A of TCP Act, 1974, if any zone has been changed, then the matter should be challenged and demanded that construction licenses shouldn’t be issued till then. He also reminded the Chair that during the previous gram sabha meeting dated they had taken a resolution stating that they do not want any change of zone for land use in the village of Sao Jose De Areal. The gram sabha members informed that these amendments are also being challenged by different organizations of Goa and the matter is sub judice.
Moreover, in order to prevent land-related disputes and protect potential property buyers, the members demanded that the chair display all problematic survey numbers in the village of Sao Jose De Areal on the Panchayat notice board. They specified that if any matter is sub judice or if there are disputes, controversies, or no access road, these survey numbers should be listed with valid reasons, so that anyone purchasing plots in our village should have knowledge of the said survey numbers and should not fall into trouble after the purchase of plots.
The villagers reiterated that the panchayat and authorities concerned address the water crisis issue being faced by the villagers.
Further, regarding alleged pollution from Goa Carbon Factory, the members raised their voices and told the Chair to write about this very serious matter once again to the Goa State Pollution Control Board, the Central Pollution Control Board, Department of Environment and Climate Change, and also to the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), demanding an inspection at the earliest.
Travasso also informed about industrial waste being released through paddy fields to the nullah, which is giving off a foul smell and destroying their fields too.
