MARGAO: The Electricity Department has postponed its plans for a power shutdown in Navelim, following strong objections from the local community. The department has confirmed that the previously announced power cuts scheduled for November 19 and 21, which would have coincided with significant religious celebrations at Our Lady of Rosary Church, have been cancelled.
Savio Coutinho, who had earlier voiced concerns about the timing of the maintenance work, announced the development. The original shutdown would have affected several areas including Colmorod, Sirvodem, and the vicinity of Navelim Church during the novena and feast day celebrations. The department’s decision to acknowledge feedback was welcomed by local residents who can now proceed with their religious observances without disruption.
The new dates for the essential maintenance work, which includes upgrades to transformer centers and replacement of various electrical equipment, will be announced later.
