Says supply not affected

The decision of some of the Belgaum wholesalers of not supplying vegetables to Horticulture outlets in Goa took its toll on supply to government-run hospitals and institutions which met their needs for veggies from Maharashtra.
Supply to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Asilo and Hospicio hospitals, Aguada jail, catering institute and government-aided schools was affected for a day, but the situation is now back to normal.
“We have started importing vegetables from Kolhapur, Nashik, Chikmagalur, Ichalkaranji and Sirsai. The supply did affect these establishments for a day, but we had options,” Goa State Horticulture Corporation Chairman Sankalp Amonkar told Herald.
Amonkar said, “Supply to the 350-odd carts and 246 mobile vans is not affected. The shortage was plugged with steady supply from Maharashtra and Karnataka, he said and added, “Karnataka government’s Agriculture Produce Marketing Corporation (APMC) godown was hired by the Corporation to store the vegetables before transporting them to Goa.”
The Belgaum protestors on Tuesday had entered the godown and assaulted the staff there before spoiling the vegetables and.
Amonkar said that the situation was normal at present as the Belgaum yard is being used only to accumulate and to do the packaging. Import of vegetables from Belgaum has for the time being, he mentioned.
