PANJIM: To boost farming by the Schedule Tribe (ST) community, the State government proposes to provide them financial assistance.
Agriculture Department has introduced a scheme called “Assistance for Purchase of Agriculture Inputs”, wherein it is proposed to provide support to the extent of 75 per cent of the cost on inputs, with a maximum subsidy limit of Rs 12,000 per hectare.
“ST farmers are financially weak and do not use the required inputs as recommended for cultivation. To provide encouragement to farmers and youth from the ST communities for self employment and to build confidence among them, against inflation of the inputs, the government proposes to support this community with financial assistance on the purchase of the inputs,” the department said.
As per the scheme, the government through Agriculture Department will provide assistance to the extent of 75 per cent of the cost on inputs such as seed, planting material, pesticides, soil conditioners, bio-fertilizer etc with a maximum subsidy limit of Rs 12,000 per hectare.
The quantity of the inputs will be ascertained based on area of crops cultivated and recommended dosage. The maximum area to be considered for subsidy for an individual farmer is 2 hectare for one crop season limited to subsidy of Rs 24,000.
Only those ST farmers who possess cultivable land are eligible under the scheme.
