CALANGUTE: Describing science as nothing but doing things out of curiosity while also making living comfortable with its uses, Chief Scientist at the Directorate of Science, Technology & Environment Joseph Rauto D’Souza said scientific inventions are needed for the benefit of community.
D’Souza was addressing a gathering at a science exhibition in the Community Hall of Holy Trinity Church, Nagoa-Arpora-Baga.
The exhibition was conducted to showcase the talent of young students of the Diocesan Society Education Schools in collaboration with the Directorate of Science, Technology & Environment, Goa, while launching the Science Exhibition Van (SEV) at Nagoa. The DSE has decided to reach out to students of all schools in Goa through the SEV.
The exhibits included recycling of plastic waste, arrest of soil erosion and solar energy.
“Science is nothing but doing things out of curiosity while also making living comfortable with its uses. In a fast changing world, we need inventions in science to prevent flooding, soil erosion, besides disposing garbage at home and helping the community. However, some scientific inventions like the mobile and internet have today become a liability due to various problems connected with it,” said D’Souza.
Speaking on the occasion, Nagoa-Arpora-Baga Parish Priest Fr Urbano Menezes Fr Urbano Menezes appreciated the efforts of the students.
“I appreciate the exhibit on the scientific way of preventing an accident. I wonder if the technology could be used at our accident-prone junction at Nagoa to avoid accidents in future,” said Fr Menezes.
Earlier, D’Souza inaugurated the SEV in presence Diocesan Society of Education Secretary Fr Zeferino D’Souza, Manager of St Joseph’s High School (Arpora) Fr Jesus Rodrigues and Headmaster of St Joseph’s High School-Arpora Gracy D’Souza.
