MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Friday hiked the charges of commercial vehicles coming to the wholesale fish market. The fees of the vehicles were last reviewed in 2005.

SGPDA Chairman Wilfred D’Sa placed the fees restructuring at the authority meeting held on Friday. The SGPDA has after 2005 not reviewed the fees levied on to the commercial vehicles coming with fish for wholesale trade to the market. The fees which were earlier Rs 5 to Rs 100 have been now increased.
“Our income from the market is Rs 1.5 lakh and we are spending Rs 5 lakh for maintaining the market,” said the chairman.
Heavy trucks coming with fish will have to pay Rs 500 and mini trucks Rs 200, mini pickups Rs 100, rickshaw Rs 50. Bamboo “patle” will have to pay Rs 20 and boxes will have to pay Rs 50 as fees for conducting businesses.
“The cost of maintenance has increased as well as the earnings from the trade,” said the chairman.
