MARGAO: The South Goa Additional District Magistrate has issued an order prohibiting six-wheeler (multi-axel) vehicles from using an access road of Dongorwaddo, Fatorda.
The order was issued at a meeting in the district magistrate’s office on Monday. Dongorwaddo locals had objected to an earlier notification that only prohibited entry of heavy vehicles from 7am to 8.30 am and 12.30 to 2 pm.
The issue revolves around multi-axel trucks that used the road while transporting marble and granite to Silver Trade Link, a tile shop. Earlier, the Assistant Director of Transport Melwin Fernandes stated that if the movement of heavy vehicles was banned on the road, the general public would suffer a lot at the time of construction or renovation of their houses. He added that it would not solve the purpose, but only worsen the law and order situation.
Suggestions were taken on how to solve the issue of transporting material to Silver Trade Link on a temporary basis as the shop owners were planning to shift to Nuvem soon.
