MARGAO: The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) of the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency finally stands sealed at the Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao on Sunday morning.
The sealing of the EVMs took place in the presence of the ECI appointed Election observers, besides Returning Officer Mihir Vardhan and other election officials. The EVMs were sealed in the strong room by the officials exactly at 9 am on Sunday.
When contacted, the Returning Officer said the process of sealing of the EVMs was completed at 9 am. “The EVMs now stand stored and sealed in the strong room of the Kare College of Law,” Vardhan told Herald. He said the entire process of sealing and signing of election documents was completed by 1 pm on Sunday.
Sources in the know said the Congress candidate Reginaldo Lourenco and a group of Congress workers maintained a vigil at the Kare College of Law last night till the time of sealing of the EVMs early Sunday morning.
Vardhan said the para military personnel have taken over security of the EVMs, adding that the personnel will man the EVMs round-the-clock till the day of the counting scheduled on May 16.
