CANACONA: A day after the Lok Sabha polls ended, Canacona Congress camp is upbeat that it will maintain its traditional leads in the Lok Sabha polls this time too.
Addressing a news conference, Congress leader Isidore Fernandes in the presence of Canacona Block President Elvis Fernandes thanked voters for coming out to vote in large numbers, heeding to Congress’ requests.
“I thank each one of the voters for having come out and voted on Saturday. I am personally obliged because I myself as a Congress leader was out of political action in Canacona for the last two years due to some problems and on my own health ground,” he said.
“With the response I got during our campaign, I’m confident that my electorate understood the truth and accepted me as I will continue to work for my people in whatever capacity I can,” assured Fernandes.
Fernandes further said he is coming out strongly now and will provide a strong opposition to the State government and particularly to the revengeful politics in Canacona.
Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Mahadev Dessai said Congress will get a lead of 1,000 votes in municipal areas only, besides Congress will lead in Agonda, Shristhal, Poinguinim, Loliem and Gaondongrim.
Others present for the news conference were Dhiraj Naik Gaonkar, Janardhan Bhandari, Ashok Pagui, besides Elvis Fernandes and Mahadev Dessai.
