MARGAO: Lawyers from South Goa on Thursday called for an independent office of the Administrative Tribunal in Margao, while requesting the government to relocate Special Court to down south and to have an additional Children’s court in South Goa.
The general body meeting of the South Goa Advocates Association held today unanimously supported the need to have an independent office of the Administrative tribunal in Margao for the purpose of matters relating to South Goa.
Adv Joaquim D’Souza stated that there is an additional presiding officer of the Administrative Tribunal of Goa whose office has been established in Panaji Goa (Dr Vaidhya Hospital Building). It was pointed out that the government could depute the officer for the purpose of establishing office of the Administrative Tribunal in South Goa.
The meeting took stock of the location of the Special Court in Margao, with lawyers demanding its relocation either to Panjim or Vasco.
SGAA President Rajeev Gomes said there is no rational in having Special Court in Mapusa and that a bench of the same ought to be located either at Panaji or Vasco for the sake of convenience of the people/advocates from South Goa.
Gomes told the media after the meeting that a representation on behalf of SGAA will be made to the government, requesting for relocation of the office of the said court or in the alternative to establish a bench/additional court for South Goa, anywhere within South Goa.
Similarly, Gomes stated that the Children’s Court is overburdened with cases and has no time to deal with the same.
All members present unanimously agreed that the government should establish a bench/additional Children’s court for South Goa anywhere within the district.
On the issue of construction of a new court building at Margao, lawyers underlined the need to request the government to seriously consider construction of the new building for the benefit of the advocates and the litigants with provision for parking, canteen etc.
