CALANGUTE: They were installed to regulate traffic and ensure safety; however, two newly-built speed breakers in front of Ronil’s Resort, on the Calangute-Baga road, are posing a serious threat to motorists and pedestrians, as they have been washed away due to heavy rains.
Sources informed that the speed breakers have been damaged beyond repair and all that remains of them now is loose gravel and rubble that is scattered all over the road.
A number of motorists, especially tourists, find it difficult to maneuver over the loose gravel and tend to loose balance and control of their two wheelers.
“I have witnessed people falling off their bikes and scooters. Unfortunately, authorities are reluctant to do anything about this and the situation is going from bad to worse,” said Domnic Fernandes.
Another resident said that it is difficult to carry out repair work due to the continuous downpour; however, he said the least the authorities could do was remove the rubble from the road.
