PANJIM: In a major relief, the Mundkars from the Schedule Tribes (ST) category will now be able to become proud owners of their dwelling houses, as the State government provides financial assistance to these needy Mundkars to purchase these houses from the Bhatkars.
The scheme ‘Financial Assistance to Purchase Dwelling House of Mundkar under Mundkarache Ghar’ has been notified by the State Tribal Department under which a maximum benefit of upto Rs 30,000 would be granted to these Mundkars for purchasing dwelling houses from the Bhatkars at the price determined by the Mamlatdar under the provisions of Goa, Daman and Diu Mundkar Act.
“Mundkar Act came into force since 1975 however there are many Mundkars who belong to ST category and have not exercised their right to purchase Mundkarial dwelling house due to poor financial condition. Because the dwelling house is not owned by them, they have to face difficulties in carrying out repairs/renovations to their dwelling houses,” the scheme notified on July 11, reads.

Further, the beneficiary under the scheme is also eligible for benefit under the other schemes meant for the ST people like Indira Awaas Yojana or Atal Asra Yojana or Rajiv Awas Yojana or Souchalaya Suvidha.
