PANJIM: The Goa government has appealed against the acquittal of Tehelka magazine’s founder and ex-editor Tarun Tejpal before the High Court of Bombay at Goa. The Bench is expected to hear the petition on May 27.
On May 21, Tejpal was acquitted of charges of rape, sexual harassment and wrongful restraint after Judge Kshama Joshi read out a brief order in the presence of Tejpal and his family. The order reportedly runs into 527 pages.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had immediately said the State will challenge the order in the High Court.
A woman journalist, who has since left the magazine, had alleged that Tejpal assaulted her twice in a hotel elevator in Goa, on November 7 and 8, 2013, when the magazine was hosting its annual conference of Indian leaders, newsmakers and celebrities. Her complaint to the co-founder was later taken up suo-motu by Goa Police that registered a criminal offence against Tejpal. He was arrested on November 30, 2013 and bailed out in May 2014.
