PANJIM: At a time when the government is gearing up to hold the deferred Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections this month-end or in early December, the State Election Commissioner RK Srivastava has tendered his resignation citing ‘personal reasons’.

In January 2017, the retired IAS officer, who had earlier served as the State Chief Secretary, was appointed as the State Election Commissioner.
Just last week Srivastava had met with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Chief Secretary Parimal Rai over conducting the much-delayed ZP polls.
Despite several efforts, Srivastava remained unavailable for the comments. Sources in the government confirmed that he has tendered his resignation citing personal reasons.
Sources also said that the government may hand over charge to Chief Elector Officer Kunal as well as Secretary Election, keeping in mind the need to go for immediate ZP polls.
