PANJIM: In a much needed relief to the vehicle owners, the State government on Tuesday announced extension of time for fitment of high security registration plates (HSRP) to the vehicles without any punitive action.
Director Transport Rajan Satardekar has issued a public notice informing the vehicle owners, that the HSRP number plate installation schedule has been modified to give relief to people.
“Now the vehicle owners who could not get their vehicles fitted with HSRP within stipulated month will be given additional extended time without any punitive action,” he said.
The department also clarified that the enforcement or challaning of vehicles will start only after ensuring that all vehicles have been duly fitted with the new number plates.
The move will address the growing complaints of the citizens, who are forced to spend almost half a day in Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) to get appointment for the installation of number plates. From October 1, the vehicles with 00 series are taken up for HSRP installations, which will be followed by series 1 to 9, each month.
There are around 11 lakh vehicles whose number plates will have to be replaced with HSRP.
