PANJIM: The State Teachers Awards for Excellence in Higher Education for the year 2018-19 and 2020-21 by the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) were awarded at a function held at Goa University, Taleigao Plateau, on Monday.

Professor M K Janardanan, Prof Pranab Mulhopadhyay, Prof Vrinda Borkar, Prof Pravin Bhende, Prof Sushila Sawant Mendes, Prof Kaustubh Priolkar, Prof Jyoti D Powar, Prof Fakruddin M Nadaf, Prof Sanjay Sawant Desai and Dr Dilecta D’Costa received the State Teachers Awards for the year 2020-21 at the hands of the Chief Minister.
The recipients of State Teachers Awards for the year 2018-19 were Prof B R Srinivasan, Prof Venkatesh V Kamat, Prof Rekha Ramesh Gaonkar, Prof Vikas Pissurlekar and Prof Dr Sister M Aradhana.
Whereas the recipients of State Teachers Awards for the year 2019-20 were Prof Rajendra Soiru Gad, Prof Savita Kerkar, Prof Vidya Desai and Prof Radhika Nayak and Prof Rajan Mathew.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant informed the gathering that in the last two years the felicitation of teachers was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
He also expressed his happiness for having the opportunity to felicitate those teachers who strive to crave the future of future generations.
“The short films on every recipient of the award show their achievement earned out of their dedication and commitment. It also shows that they are in real sense of the term excelled in their respective field and that they really deserve appreciation and recognition,” said Sawant.
“When we aim to create a new India our youth have to excel in different fields. Every student is unique so we have to identify the talent and motivate them to ensure that the aims and objectives are fulfilled,” he added.
Speaker of Legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar also spoke on the occasion.
Secretary Higher Education Ravi Dhavan, Vice Chancellor Prof Hiralal Menon, Registrar Prof Vishnu Nadkarni, Director of DHE Prasad Lolyenkar, research scholars, deans, academicians, scholars and students attended the function.
