MARGAO: Unsanitary conditions prevail in this commercial complex right under the nose of the South Goa Planning and Development Authority — stinking toilets in the Osia commercial complex housing government departments, including the SGPDA, besides litter and waste at the entrance to the complex.
Sadly, the presence of government departments in the Commercial complex has failed to give relief to the beleaguered citizens. If the non-functioning elevators of the buildings were a problem some time ago, visitors to the government offices now have to contend with the stinking toilets in the complex.
Visitors and the employees are forced to fend for themselves in the absence of any maintenance worth its name. Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar’s meeting with senior officials more than a year ago to put in place a mechanism wherein maintenance of the government departments housed in the commercial complex has failed to bear fruit till date.
Says a citizen Avinash Tavares: “The issue is there’s no maintenance of the toilets in the commercial complex. Worse still is the fact that since the gents toilets are indeed in a sorry state, people use the ladies toilets. The toilets are not only dirty, but the septic tanks here overflow, posing a health hazard to the visitors and employees alike”.
A shop owner Faizan said the business people had to come together as the authorities have failed to lift the garbage on a daily basis. “Garbage and waste is piling up right at the entrance to Osia Commercial Complex. The government should immediately intervene and give relief to the visitors and the shopkeepers. Our previous complaints to the authorities have failed to evoke any response till date”, he lamented.
