PONDA: The Ponda locals on Tuesday urged the government to stop the sewerage chamber digging works as the heavy rainfall caused havoc in the city.

The commuters found themselves very difficult to navigate on the slippery roads, giving an opportunity to call it accident prone.
The locals want the sewerage work to be stopped in the rains to prevent accidents as the roads are becoming slippery due to mud removed from digging the chambers and dumped at the roadside, making it unmotorable.
To add to the problem, on Tuesday, the workers damaged 150 mm dia water supply pipeline causing water shortage to the Durbhat residents.
However, the PWD officials rushed to the spot to repair the pipeline, which has been damaged many times due to digging of the sewerage chambers.
The locals complained that the sewerage work progressing in the rainy season is dangerous cause the chambers collapse sometimes causing hardship and losses to the vehicles. “Many times in the past we have witnessed the vehicles get trapped into it after the chambers are collapsed,” the locals mentioned.
A local, Hanumanth Naik said, “The government circular states that there should be no road digging in rainy season especially after May 15. However, many roads are not even restored in Ponda. It’s June and it has been raining heavily in Ponda past two days now. However, the work on digging the roads for sewerage chamber and laying sewerage lines continue which is creating great hardship to the locals especially the commuters who find it difficult to negotiate through the road dug as they became slippery due to mud flowing on the road.”
“As most part of the road is dug, some vehicles are forced to drive through the mud while giving side to other vehicles thus the mud getting stuck to the wheels and spreading on the road making a dangerous situation for the bike riders to ride on the slippery road,” he added.
In the past several bike riders had bad experience when they were skidded off the muddy road resulting to fractures and other injuries.
