Take action against erring bus operators: GGF

MARGAO: The Green Goa Foundation (GGF) in a letter to the South Goa District Collector has warned to stage a National Highway roadblock at Cuncolim, if the authorities don’t take action against the allegedly erring bus operators.
The NGO has given 15 days time to the authorities. The GGF reminded that they have filed two complaints in the office of the collector regarding the buses plying from Canacona and proceeding to Margao and vice versa which have been allegedly causing an obstruction to the traffic at the Cuncolim Bus Stand by stopping on the National Highway to collect and drop passengers, thus causing a hindrance to general public and other vehicles proceedings towards Margao.
“There is no traffic police posted there to man the traffic thereby permitting the errant bus drivers to violate traffic rules and highway codes of behaviour with impunity. This violation by the bus drivers happens usually in the morning causing undue nuisance and inconvenience to the public especially to school/college going children/students who invariably reach late due to the traffic congestion,” alleged GGF.
The GGF has requested District Collector in the larger interest of the public to look into this matter at the earliest, within 15 days from the receipt of this notice failing which the GGF has warned that they will be forced to block the National Highway from September 30, from 7 am to 12 pm as the authority has failed in spite of giving several notices.
“We are forced to block the National Highway in larger interest of public as there are a lot of accidents taking place due to the negligence of authorities. The above authorities cannot book any case against us as they have failed to sort out this issue from 2013 till date,” said the GGF.
