Tamboxem-Uguem-Mopa P’yat asks police to act against illegal sand mining

PERNEM: The Tamboxem-Uguem-Mopa Village Panchayat has submitted a memorandum to Pernem police complaining about the issue of illegal sand extraction. 

The panchayat stated that the rampant illegal sand extraction is affecting the environment and ecology and the damage being inflicted is irreparable. The memorandum stated that in addition to several appeals to the authorities, the villagers tried their level best to stop the illegal sand extraction but the response was disheartening.

The elements involved in illegal sand extraction have been continuing their activities at large on the strength of money and muscle power.

Presently, persons from Porascadem Amere village are engaged in the illegal trade with the help of labourers, who allegedly have criminal background and have criminal cases registered against them at Pernem police station. 

A total 40 to 45 canoes with minimum 10 labourers on each canoe are engaged in sand extraction during night under the cover of darkness.
