Some locals on Friday confronted the contractor and threatened to hold a dharna if the supply was not restored and it’s only then that the repair work of the water pipeline picked up pace.

The work of laying gas lines is underway since the last four days, however the officials of neither the water division nor the electricity department have been taken into confidence.

Electricity Department engineers and other officials reached the site after power lines were damaged. The digging for the repairing of power lines made the soil wear out which in-turn put pressure on underground water pipelines leading to water line getting damaged. Since water is a good conductor of electricity, the repair work of power lines was also stopped.

“For the last three days, I have been running to officials concerned for the repair of the water pipeline; however, no one is handling the issue with seriousness. The contractor has also damaged the compound walls of the panchayat ground despite being asked to work cautiously,” said panch Roman Vaz.

“People are asking us but we do not know when the supply will be restored. The contractor did not take the panchayat into confidence,” said panch Mary Mascarenhas.

Meanwhile, contractor Samir said that the water pipeline was damaged due to extreme stress of mud and admitted that they should have been supplying water to locals in tankers.
