Sources stated that there were 11 such robberies in the last few weeks of bikes parked opposite the swimming pool. These bikes were usually parked by people who visit the joggers’ track for daily walks.
“After my walk I found that my wallet that was in the bike had been stolen. My driving license, debit card and cash were in it,” said Mumtaz Xec who added that the authorities were aware of such happenings but had failed to take necessary action.
Incidentally SAG officials called Mumtaz after finding her wallet with her driving license and debit card in it, thrown on the football ground nearby. Many others who had their items from their bike stolen, like credit cards, cell phones and cash, later found that their wallets were dumped either in the garbage bin or around the joggers’ park.
Sources stated that they had even identified a gang of three boys who are seen roaming in the area with a bunch of keys trying to break open the locked bikes; however, no action was forthcoming. Guards present near the swimming pool said they were not in a position to check given the sheer number of people who visit that area everyday. “Why has the police not taken cognizance of the matter and set a strong precedent?” questioned.
