MAPUSA: A resident of Bodiem-Thivim was arrested for allegedly assaulting Sirsaim panchayat secretary Dinesh Chodankar over the issue of renewal of NOC at the panchayat office on Monday.
The accused also damaged the furniture of the panchayat causing loss of approximately Rs 1,00,000.
In his complaint to the police, the secretary stated that at around 11 am on Monday the accused Lindon Sequeira, a resident of Bodiem-Thivim over the issues of renewal of NOC criminally trespassed into the panchayat office when he along with the other staff were performing their lawful duties. The complainant further stated that the accused abused him with filthy words, threatened to kill him and assaulted him with fist blows, kicks causing injuries. He damaged the furniture of the panchayat causing a loss to the State exchequer to the tune of Rs 1,00,000 and deterred the complainant and other panchayat officials from performing their lawful duties. During the course of investigation, the accused was brought to the Mapusa Police Station and after interrogation was placed under arrest.
Mapusa Police have registered an offence under Sections 451, 504, 506 (ii), 332, 353 IPC. Further investigation is on.
