MARGAO: Thousands of devotees thronged the Shree Shantadurga Fatarpekarin Temple at Fatorpa as curtains came down on the Zatra festival in the wee hours of Friday.
The Maharath procession which began at around 6 am culminated an hour later as devotees from all walks of life participated in the solemn religious ceremony.
President of the Shree Shantadurga Fatarpekarin Temple Sausthan Govind Faldesai said devotees in large numbers participated in this year’s zatra festival. “We have seen twice the number of people visiting the Temple this year compared to the previous year,” he said.
On the Maharatta procession on early Friday morning, Govind said that the pulling of the maharatha turned out a smooth affair as the Saustha had made arrangements for a steering for smooth movement of the rath.
Meanwhile, the popular Zatra of Shree Shantadurga Kunkallikarin commenced at Fatorpa on Friday evening. President of the Saustha Dinkar Desai said the organisers have made all arrangements for the smooth conduct of the festival.
