PANJIM: With the tourism season soon approaching, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte held a meeting with the MLAs of Goa’s coastal constituencies to gather inputs for the Integrated Beach Management Policy and urged the MLAs to work together for improving the sector which is the mainstay of State’s economy.
However, most of the problems discussed in the meeting were already spoken about in the Monsoon Session of the Goa Legislative Assembly. The 10 MLAs including Jit Arolkar, Venzy Viegas, Delialah Lobo, Altone D’Costa, Viresh Borkar, Antonio Vaz and others were present at the meeting.

Rohan said that the MLAs, and panchayats need to cooperate to improve the tourism sector of Goa.
“I have given directions to the concerned Directors and officials to physically inspect the beach areas with MLAs and resolve problems,” Khaunte said.
“There is no ruling or opposition as far as tourism is concerned as it is the mainstay of Goa’s economy,” he added.
Further Khaunte said, “Illegalities are increasing in the tourism and beach areas as police presence is less. A discussion will be held with the Chief Minister to make sure this serious issue is addressed.”
Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, however, complained that only meetings are being held but the execution is not happening as far as problems in the tourism sector are concerned. He said that problems discussed during the Assembly session still remain unresolved.
“The Minister is working well but I think the department is not fast enough. Soon the tourism season will begin but the infrastructure remains in a bad shape,” Viegas complained.
