PONDA: Trade Union leader Christopher Fonseca along with Raju Naik and other leaders went on a dharna at the Vaiya Chowk in Ponda against the government for its anti-labour policies and inflation. They shouted slogans for a hike in the minimum salary of Rs 20,000 per month and opposed anti-labour policies.
Christopher Fonseca said the NDA government led by PM Narendra Modhi failed to bring Ache Din and its decisions were causing great hardship to the people.
Terming the demonetization as a disaster, Fonseca claimed that it failed to curb black money and terrorist funding; conversely, it hit the small and medium scale industries and the unorganised sector resulting in a loss of over 15 lakh jobs within three months.
He said that the unplanned implementation of GST disrupted trade, commerce and industries especially small scale ones all over country and GST had placed great burden of indirect taxes on common people.
To protest GST, anti-worker policies, contract system in government departments and rising inflation, Fonseca said, various trade unions would occupy the Parliament street for three days on November 9, 10 and 11.
Occupy- Parliament-street unions include INTUC, AITUC, CITU, HMS, UTUC, AIITUC, SEVA, PLF and several other independent federations of banks, insurance, coal and oil, cement industries.
