CCP identifies 7 hawkers’ zones

PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji has identified 7 hawkers’ zones in the city to station registered handcarts.
In a special meeting held on Wednesday with the handcart owners and the CCP Councillors and officials, areas were designated as special hawking zones and also the process to keep a check on the illegality was also discussed.
CCP Commissioner Ajit Roy said, “CCP held a special meeting to consider two points. First, to designate hawkers zone for the city and the other to ensure only legal and registered handcarts operate within the jurisdiction.”
After having encountered widespread chaos due to handcarts and cracking down on illegal handcarts, the CCP has announced that handcarts would henceforth be stationed at these 7 areas. Church Square, National Theatre, Dada Vaidya Hospital, Caculo Mall, Inox Multiplex, Miramar beach and Dona Paula jetty have been announced as the hawker zones.
The CCP has approved and registered 92 handcarts which will be accommodated at the 7 designated areas with immediate effect. The handcarts will be permitted to operate only until 11 pm and the CCP has informed that a list of registered andcarts will be provided to the police to ensure that only the legal handcarts are operating.
