A tree got uprooted and landed on the Shantadurga Higher Secondary School building at Shantaram Nagar in Bicholim on Saturday morning, as heavy rains also damaged property in other parts of the taluka.
Bicholim fire services rushed to the spot and cleared the uprooted tree from the building. The school suffered a loss of about Rs 50,000.
Trees were also uprooted in Sal, Mencurem and Latambarcem villages, with the losses being estimated at about Rs 25,000.
Water level at the Anjune dam reached 92.75 metres and Bicholim Mamlatdar Pramod Bhat said water was being released from gates of the dam.
“The Disaster Management group is closely monitoring the situation and there is no danger of a flood in Bicholim and Sanquelim as of now,” said Bhat.
