MARGAO: Call it negligence or fate? In an unfortunate incident, a Betalbatim woman, who was accompanied by her husband to the South Goa District Hospital, breathed her last inside a car on Tuesday as she remained “unattended” for hours.
Forty-nine-year-old Augusta Fernandes from Bhimwado, Betalbatim passed away in the car as she was taken by her husband to the South Goa District Hospital to be admitted.
According to sources, the woman fell sick on Monday and underwent a COVID test at Apollo Hospital. The test report is pending. However, on Tuesday she was rushed to the District Hospital at around 5.30 am.
Sources informed that at the hospital, she was neither admitted nor checked and remained inside the car till 11 am and passed away. Her husband brought her back home.
Following the intervention of local MLA Wilfred alias Babashan D’Sa, the death certificate was obtained and the funeral service was held at 5 pm.
Betalbatim sarpanch Constancio Miranda, who was with the family throughout the ordeal helped in the funeral arrangement.
Augusta is survived by her husband and son, who is a student.
Meanwhile, former sarpanch of Davorlim Paulo Colaco, currently functioning as Director of Rosary Agricultural Requisites Co-operative Society succumbed to COVID.
