PORVORIM, MAY 2
Aldona MLA Dayanand Narvekar said underground electricity cables will be laid from Tivim sub station to Porvorim, for which the State government has sanctioned Rs 22 crore.
He was the addressing the public meeting organized by Penha-de-France panchayat in Community hall at Porvorim.
“The tender formalities have been completed and the work is expected to be completed within one year. Once the project is completed, the problem of power fluctuation being faced by the residents of Porvorim will be eliminated,” said Narvekar.
“As per the information given to me by the government in the Legislative assembly, the potable water requirement of Porvorim and surrounding areas is 10 MLD. Porvorim being at tail end do not receive sufficient water supply from Assnora,” he added.
He said the best solution to solve the water problem of Porvorim and adjoining areas is to construct a water treatment plant at Mapusa or Guirim. The proposal of his is under active consideration of the government.
He has also suggested to the government to lay a separate pipe from Guirim to Porvorim to supply raw water, which is being received from Tillari.
“The present water storage capacity at Porvorim is 6,000 cubic meters. The construction work of two overhead tanks, one each at Betim and Socorro, will be completed shortly and thus the storage capacity will increase to 7,300 cubic meters,” said Narvekar.
Narvekar said on the request of Goa Housing Board, the Goa Cricket Association has agreed to develop the football ground near Hanuman Temple, Porvorim, by spending around Rs 30 lakh.
“This ground will be of an area of 110 mtrs by 100 mtrs and it will have rubberized track,” said Narvekar.
Speaking about water supply position, Executive Engineer K H Kamaladinni said Porvorim is facing water problem because it is at the tail end.
“The new water treatment plant of 50 MLD, which is under construction at Assnora will be ready soon. Since the residents of Bardez taluka are facing acute water shortage, the PWD has decided to commission partly this new treatment plant by the third week of May,” he added.
“Once the plant is commissioned, at least 20 MLD water will be released for Bardez taluka, out of which Porvorim is expected to get 5 MLD water. With this additional supply of 5 MLD water, the water problem of Porvorim will be solved,” said Kamaladinni.
He said the electricity department is installing one more transformer at Assnora and to carry out this work, there will be power shut down on May 3.
Electricity Department Executive Engineer Ulhas Kerkar, Water Resource Department Executive Engineer P B Badami and Zilla Parishad member Gupesh Naik were also present for the meeting.
