MARGAO: Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardessai at the Sunday Dialogue declared that entire Fatorda constituency will have underground power cables in six months and undertook to develop the ‘We For Fatorda’ ground where the function was held, with astro turf.
He declared that financial approval has been given to lay underground cables pertaining to the 5th Feeder the only one in Fatorda that was still connected with overhead cables. “The project costing Rs 25 crore will be commenced shortly and will be completed within six months,” he said.
The underground cable will be laid in areas like Dongorwado, Gavliwado, PWD building and surrounding areas. He also directed the PWD to allot 50 slabs to each of the councilors to cover the open drains in their wards.
As there was a request to permit the local youth to use the football ground at the Fatorda complex and it was revealed that the ground is reserved for the football federation, Vijai said he would develop the “We for Fatorda” ground where the dialogue was being held.
Noticing construction debris dumped on the ground, he sought to know who was doing it and asked the officials to keep a check on such activities.
He asked the PWD to check what alternate route can be provided to the people as they complained that the access prepared to enter the Kadamba Bus station is becoming useless as the inter-state buses occupy all the space and the access cannot be used.
Reducing traffic circles: It was decided to reduce the circumference of all traffic circles so that more road way is given to vehicles as they are otherwise blocking access to people. While initially the pavement around the Bolshe circle will be removed, the other traffic circles will also be reduced.
He also stated that traffic signals will be erected shortly at the Colva Circle, Fatorda Junction and Goa Bottling junction as all the work is completed and only the signals have to be installed. “Once these cameras are installed problems of haphazard parking, rash and negligent driving will automatically reduce as people will start getting challans for which I may be cursed,” he quipped.
Police Instructed: Police were asked to intensify patrolling as there were complaints of youngsters riding in rash and negligent manner and also indulging in anti-social activities in the night like drinking and smoking in public. “Arrest them for some time so that they mend their ways,” he said.
He also instructed PWD to study and accordingly erect speed breakers or rumblers at various places as suggested by people. Responding to complaints of cow dung causing a nuisance at Gavliwada he suggested setting up a gobber gas plant to extract bio-fuel from the cow dung.
