Utpal Parrikar said the outcome of the City Corporation of Panaji (CCP) elections was shaped by multiple factors, including ward redrawing, the reservation process and the limited time available for campaigning.
Speaking after the results were declared, Parrikar acknowledged that the panel he supported, We Panjekars, lost the election but stressed that several candidates were defeated by narrow margins. According to him, the results reflected a closely fought contest in many wards rather than a one-sided outcome.
Parrikar also pointed out that the number of votes secured by candidates from the panel was broadly comparable to the votes he had received during the previous Assembly election. He suggested that this indicated continued support among sections of the electorate despite the panel not emerging victorious in the civic polls.
Reflecting on the campaign, Parrikar said the effort went beyond the electoral result. He maintained that the campaign had helped bring together residents of Panaji to discuss governance, civic issues and the future development of the capital city.
While acknowledging the setback, Parrikar emphasised that engaging citizens and encouraging conversations around local governance remained an important outcome of the campaign. He added that the discussions held during the campaign could contribute to shaping Panaji’s development priorities in the future.
