The gram sabha also grilled Sarpanch Melvin Sanchez and the panchayat over the issue of health cards for workers on fishing boats.
Members informed the sarpanch that over 6,000 people were working on fishing boats, and most of them did not have health cards. They asked what action the panchayat was taking against the boat owners whose employees who did not posses such cards.
The sarpanch replied that it was up to the Health Department to take action, but the health officer shifted the responsibility to the panchayat.
The gram sabha demanded immediate action against boat owners who did not follow the rules, and called for labourers to be sent back to their native place if they did not possess health cards.
It was also decided to organise a health camp for villagers on April 29.
