PERNEM: The Pernem Deputy Collector sent five reminders across 27 months to get the final cause of death of Nidhi Gupta whose husband has now been accused for being involved in her murder.
According to details from the Deputy Collector’s Office in Pernem, the first reminder was sent on May 9, 2022, and the last reminder was sent on March 20, 2023. Records also indicate that the Deputy Collector’s office sent an additional three reminders to collect/follow up on the final cause of death report for the deceased.
On July 24, 2024, the Pernem Police registered Nidhi Gupta’s death as a murder against her husband, Aakansh Gupta, following High Court directions.
Goa Medical College’s Forensics Department sat on this samples for 27 long months, before preparing the final report mentioning the exact cause of death of Haryana native Nidhi Gupta to the from the latter’s office thereby denying justice to the victim.
Normally, it takes six months to deliver the report. The delay compelled the Nidhi’s parents to knock the door of High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking justice, which further delayed the entire investigation in the case.

According to Pernem Deputy Collector, Shivprasad Naik, the final report, which indicates the exact cause of death, was received by his office on July 8, 2024.
As reported by O Heraldo, “The Department of Forensic Medicine, Goa Medical College & Hospital, Bambolim, Goa, has furnished the final opinion as to the cause of death in a report bearing No. GMC/FM/2024/130 dated 08/07/2024, stating that the deceased died ‘due to bilateral pulmonary oedema associated with intra-alveolar haemorrhages’,” the forensic report to the Pernem Police Station on July 11, 2024, reads.
The Deputy Collector stated that, citing the cause of death, the police have enough grounds to register an offence under Section 302 of the IPC and investigate the case as a murder.
Pernem Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Jivba Dalvi, has stated that after receiving the Deputy Collector’s order, the case was properly registered as a murder following due procedure.
Nidhi Gupta, a 28-year-old married woman from Haryana, died under mysterious circumstances at Arambol in April 2022.
It is also on record that the viscera report was actually released on October 31, 2022, within six months of the incident. It has now been 27 months.
Nidhi married Aakansh on April 26, 2021.
Shortly after their marriage, she complained that her in-laws were torturing her for bringing insufficient dowry, a situation that continued for eight to nine months, according to the petitioner.
On April 24, 2022, the couple arrived in Goa to celebrate their first wedding anniversary along with two friends of Aakansh, who accompanied them on the same flight. They stayed together until April 26.
On April 27, the couple moved to a hotel in Arambol, and on the intervening night of April 28-29, Nidhi died under suspicious and unnatural circumstances.
