Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane visited the renowned Shri Devi Lairai Temple at Shirgaon on Tuesday and held discussions with members of the temple committee on various local and temple-related issues.
During the interaction, committee members apprised Rane of ongoing and proposed temple projects as well as concerns affecting the surrounding area. Rane assured them that the issues raised would be addressed and also said he would intervene in matters concerning the mining site located adjacent to the temple premises.

After offering prayers at the Lairai Temple, Rane also visited the shrine at Mudder, associated with the goddess, and inspected the surrounding area. The Lairai Temple at Shirgaon is a prominent religious site and is known for its annual jatra and traditional fire-walking ritual.
Rane’s visit has meanwhile triggered political speculation in connection with the Mayem Assembly constituency, amid talk that he could contest the upcoming Assembly elections from the seat.
However, Rane dismissed any political interpretation of his visit, stating that he visits Shirgaon every year to seek the blessings of Goddess Lairai. He maintained that this year’s visit was undertaken for the same religious purpose and had no special political significance.
