TIVIM: The hearing on the anticipatory bail application of the eight persons accused in the attack on St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh on December 19 will be held on January 2.
It may be recalled that the eight persons on December 27 filed an anticipatory bail at the Mapusa Court and the hearing on the anticipatory bail plea was to take place on December 30.
Advocate Swapnil Nasnolkar, who is appearing on behalf of the eight persons, had insisted that they were being false implicated in the case. “We anticipate that the arrest of those eight persons is likely and hence, we moved for the anticipatory bail plea. No one has named them as the accused in the assault case and they are being false implicated in the case. Hence, we don’t want them to be arrested,” Nasnolkar had said.
It may be recalled that Wagh’s attendance at a cultural event hosted by NCP leader and ex-MLA Nilkant Halarnkar at Revora-Bardez infuriated supporters, allegedly affiliated to fellow BJP MLA Kiran Kandolkar, as they confronted him and badly damaged his vehicle on his return home on December 19 night.
Condemning the attack on Wagh, Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar has vehemently denied any involvement of himself or his supporters in the attack on the St Andre MLA.
So far, police has arrested one accused, Avdhut Halarnkar, in connection with the assault and he was released on bail.
