PANJIM: A series of thefts and burglaries over the last few days have prompted the Goa Police to issue an advisory urging people to remain vigilant in protecting their property and valuables. The advisory by Director Inspector General of Police Dr O P Mishra said while police have intensified patrolling and increased visibility and presence in affected areas, the department wants the citizens’ participation to take precautionary steps as well.
To ensure safety in the house, the department has recommended locking doors from inside, switching on the front and rear lights during night time, install grills for windows and installing burglary alarm-security gadgets-surveillance cameras.
The advisory also mentions that gold, huge cash and other valuables should be kept in bank lockers and take them out only when required.
The department has also instructed to notify the police and a trustworthy neighbour while leaving a house and that movement of strangers or suspicious salesman in the locality should be immediately reported to the police. In case a crime takes place, the advisory says that the scene of crime should not be disturbed and police should immediately be called.
