PANJIM: In what could trigger a debate, former BJP MLA Subhash Phaldesai on Wednesday said that Goa has been always in controversy over services provided by the taxi operators to the tourist visiting the coastal State.
Phaldesai said the launch of taxi-app ‘Goamiles’, developed by Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), will help bring much needed discipline in the taxi service.
Addressing media persons, Phaldesai said, “Government often got complaints from tourist visiting the State about the tourist taxi operators, who use to overcharge them or behave badly. The app will ensure discipline in the taxi service. It will also help in bringing in more tourist as they would not be in fear of being looted by the taxi op“There won’t be any more complaints from tourist of being looted by the taxi operators,” the BJP leader added.
It is the first government-initiated radio taxi service in India, which comes at zero cost to the government. The app, managed by a local Goan company FROTAMILES Pvt Ltd, was launched amidst opposition from the tourist taxi operators on August 6.
Phaldesai has urged protesting taxi operators to approach GTDC and address their objections. “If anyone has some objection then they should come to GTDC and resolve it rather than protesting or coming on road,” he said.
When asked, GTDC chairman Nilesh Cabral said that he is ready to hold discussion with the taxi operators, who have objections. “We can work out some solution,” he said.
