VASCO: The Chicalim comunidade has raised serious concerns over major environmental destruction in a property in the village. The comunidade has complained that some people have illegally trespassed into the comunidade property and chopped and burnt several trees without the comunidade’s knowledge.
This is one of the several complaints lodged by the comunidade body that fears that even this complaint would be neglected by the concerned authorities and thus they have decided to follow up all the complaints until the case is brought to a logical conclusion.
“We have submitted a written complaint to the Vasco police, mentioning that some 35 to 40 labourers with chopper and axes were caught red-handed by me and other members of comunidade,” Chicalim comunidade attorney Rui Araujo said.
In the complaint the comunidade has named an influential businessmen form Vasco who allegedly carried out destruction. “A few influential people are going ahead damaging the environment. As the matter is serious and as we want to teach a lesson to all those who are eyeing comunidade property we will pursue this matter. In future we will be more active and will not allow any further destruction and encroachments,” Araujo said.
